Alumina crucibles, crafted from high-purity aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃), are known for their excellent thermal, mechanical, and chemical properties. These crucibles are used extensively in high-temperature applications and environments requiring resistance to corrosion and wear. They are ideal for a wide range of scientific, industrial, and laboratory applications due to their durability and stability at extreme temperatures.

Notes for use:

  • Place the crucible in 105 °C oven for 2h to remove the moisture before the first use.
  • Do not heat and cool faster than 5 °C/min <1200 °C or 4 °C/min >1200 °C.
  • Do not use a gasoline torch, acetylene torch, or alcohol lamp to directly heat the crucible, as uneven heating may cause it to crack.
  • The distance from the heating elements (such as carbon tubes, molybdenum disilicide rods, or heating wires) should be greater than 2 cm.

Properties and Performance:

  • High Melting Point: Alumina crucibles can withstand temperatures up to 1750°C (3182°F), making them suitable for high-temperature processes.
  • Thermal Stability: They offer excellent thermal shock resistance, allowing them to endure rapid temperature changes without cracking or warping.
  • Mechanical Strength: Alumina has a high compressive strength, meaning it can maintain structural integrity under heavy loads and harsh conditions.
  • Chemical Resistance: Alumina crucibles are highly resistant to corrosion and can withstand exposure to acids, alkalis, and other aggressive chemicals. They are non-reactive with most elements and compounds, making them ideal for applications that require chemical purity.
  • Electrical Insulation: Alumina is an excellent electrical insulator, which is valuable in applications where conductivity needs to be minimized.
  • Purity: Alumina crucibles are often available in high-purity grades (99% or higher), which is crucial for processes that require minimal contamination and high purity of materials.

Applications:

  • Laboratory Use: Alumina crucibles are commonly used in chemical laboratories for melting and calcining materials, heat treatment, and gravimetric analysis.
  • Metallurgy: Due to their high melting point, they are widely used in metal and alloy production, including smelting, refining, and casting processes.
  • Ceramic and Glass Industry: Alumina crucibles are used for high-temperature firing, sintering, and material testing in the ceramic and glass industries.
  • Chemical Processing: They serve as containers in high-temperature chemical reactions where resistance to aggressive chemicals and high temperatures is required.
  • Thermal Analysis: Alumina crucibles are suitable for applications such as differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and other thermal testing methods.
  • Electrical and Electronics: The insulating properties of alumina crucibles make them useful in electronic manufacturing and research for high-temperature insulation and containment of sensitive materials.

Types of Alumina Crucibles:

  • High-purity Alumina Crucibles (99% and above): Ideal for ultra-high temperature applications where purity is essential.
  • Low-purity Alumina Crucibles: Often more cost-effective and suitable for general-purpose high-temperature applications.
  • Shapes and Sizes: Alumina crucibles come in various shapes (cylindrical, conical, square) and sizes, depending on specific needs and applications.

Advantages of Alumina Crucibles:

  • Superior thermal shock and corrosion resistance
  • Suitable for vacuum and inert environments
  • High mechanical and thermal stability
  • Available in customizable shapes and dimensions for specialized applications

In summary, alumina crucibles offer unmatched durability and performance for high-temperature processes, enabling reliable results across a range of scientific and industrial fields.
